More Letters of a Japanese Schoolboy.

New York & London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1923. First edition. Hardcover. Item #14565

7.75" x 4.75". 137pp. Wood grained boards with black and orange lettering and orange cover lettering and illustration. In dust wrapper. Neat gift inscription and mild rubbing, else very bright near fine condition. The scarce jacket has a somewhat darkened spine and small chips at the spine tips. The book was issued in illustrated cloth boards as well. I would hesitate to call this issue the "deluxe binding" but it is unquestionably an innovative format as well as beautifully executed. With illustrations by Ralph Barton, one of the relatively unsung heros of 20th century American humor. A humorous book, if offensive by today's standards. Irwin has been described as "an 'equal-opportunity bigot' who took swipes at African-Americans, Jews, gays, Greeks, the English, short people and, most frequently, Asians and Asian-Americans."
